Hindus are upset at recent reported order of an Income Tax Tribunal in Maharashtra that "Hinduism is neither a religion nor Hindus form a religious community".

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was a bizarre, inappropriate and shocking statement. Any standard encyclopedia would tell you that Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world, Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed.

Zed further said that this statement was belittling of about one billion strong Hindu community spread worldwide.

Rajan Zed asked India's Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram and India's Revenue Secretary Sumit Bose to publicly apologize and clarify this disturbing statement of their Income Tax Department whose Mission included "To deliver quality services".
