Zed wants domestic child labor to go

An estimated 15.5 million children are involved in domestic work, according to a new report of International Labour Office prepared by Jonathan Blagbrough.

Distinguished religious statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said it was highly unacceptable in the 2013 world and a blot on humanity and something needed to be urgently done to eliminate domestic child labor.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, argued that it was immoral and a sin for the society to see the reports of many of these children working in slavery and hazardous conditions and for unlimited working hours and no weekly days-off; many went unpaid; many faced whipping, scalding, torture, cruelty, physical and sexual abuse; and do nothing about it.

Rajan Zed further said that besides respective governments; religious and community leaders, politicians, civil society organizations and media should also come to their rescue to stop these severe violations of human rights. Instead of being used as domestic laborers, these children should be sent to schools like all other children. Social attitudes needed to change on this issue and some clear-cut international regulations needed to be framed, Zed added.
