To celebrate the creative spirit of its Founder President, Aditya Vikram Birla and in his memory, the Sangit Kala Kendra has instituted Awards that recognise excellence in the performing arts.  These awards - Aditya Vikram Birla Kalashikhar Puraskar and the Aditya Vikram Birla Kalakiran Puraskars are conferred annually – the former on an extraordinary artist in a specific field and the latter on younger artists who have the potential to make it to the top. 

The Sangit Kala Kendra has programmed the 18th Anniversary celebrations of these prestigious awards on the 22nd of November 2014, in Mumbai.  Says Mrs. Rajashree Birla, President of the Sangit Kala Kendra "This year we have chosen classical dance as the theme of our Awards. Pandit Birju Maharaj, the living legend and one of the greatest exponents of the kathak, will be awarded the Aditya Vikram Birla Kalashikhar Puraskar recognising his Lifetime Achievement in classical dance.  Two promising classical dancers, Ms. Prateeksha Kashi (Kuchipudi) and Shri Rahul Acharya (Odissi) will be accorded the Aditya Vikram Birla Kalakiran Puraskars."   The recipients were chosen by a team of renowned artists in the domain of classical dance from all over the country.

The Awards will be presented by Shri Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, the Honourable Governor of Maharashtra
